When Jacinto gets sick, his relatives call upon a local healer to cure him. An intimate look at traditional Mayan healing practices, El Curandero reveals indigenous values of addressing the physical, spiritual, and psychological aspects of sickness and healing often in stark contrast to Western medicinal techniques. El Curandero is the first fiction-drama produced by Chiapaneco indigenous communities. The actors are from the small highlands community of Magdalena.
